DEAN & BRUSH - Award-Winning Musical theatre songwriting team David Brush and Rachel Dean have been creating rousing, heart-forward music and lyrics for a myriad of musicals, songs, and commissioned projects since first collaborating in 2013 and were recently named 2024 Dramatists Guild Foundation National Fellows Finalists. They are the creators of the original musical The Anxiety Project (Phoenix Theatre Festival of New American Theatre 2018; 2023 selection for the Musical Theatre Educators Association New Works Catalog; Original Cast Recording, 2020, Available for licensing with Uproar Theatrics, 2023) and upcoming full-length musicals Amelia (inspired by the book Amelia Lost! by Candance Fleming; with Julia Fisher, book) and The Word Collector (based on the book by Peter H. Reynolds; with KGM Theatrical (Rock of Ages, Puffs) and Sammy Lopez (How to Dance In Ohio on Broadway). Dean and Brush have created original commissions for MKC Theatre School (UK), Alter Castle Players, New York Film Academy, and various other individuals. The team created the original score and original credits song for the documentary film Places: Finding Community in the Wings (2022) and announced their first compilation album, Unpacking - featuring trunk and cut songs as well as new material - featuring the new singles “Indestructible”, “These Mountains of Mine”, “Anchor” and “Sensation”. In response to the pandemic shutdown, Dean and Brush partnered with KGM Theatrical on two podcasts (The 10glo Show, The Business of Broadway) with David as host and Rachel as theme composer. Together, their work has been performed in New York, Florida, Arizona, Ohio, Michigan, Alabama, Iowa and internationally in Tokyo, Japan and Alyesbury, Buckinghamshire (UK).  Between them, Rachel and David have worked on staff for countless musicals (new and developing), concerts and cabarets of their own work and others’ at every level, from amateur and collegiate (Alter Castle Players, Arizona State University,  New York University, Iowa Thespian Festival) through some of New York’s most celebrated venues (Don’t Tell Mama, Lincoln Center, New York Theatre Barn) to Broadway and Off-Broadway (Moulin Rouge, Hamilton, Hot Mess in Manhattan). Most recently, Dean and Brush (and Amelia co-writer, Julia Fisher) were named 2024 Top 25 Dramatists Guild Fellows Finalists. In addition, Dean and Brush actively partner with mental health professionals and organizations like the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in support of mental health resource availability for all.

RACHEL DEAN is a New York City-based composer, pianist, and music director. She is a pianist for Hamilton and Moulin Rouge on Broadway as well as a staff pianist for NYU Steinhardt. An ASCAP award recipient, Rachel’s work has been performed in New York, Tokyo, Miami, Ohio, Arizona, and New Jersey. In addition to her works with Brush, musicals in development include On the Line (with Amy Burgess; upcoming production at Rubber City Theatre), Medusa (with Wes Braver), and The Ballad of Janis Matthews and the Dodo Scouts (with Giancarlo Rodaz). Rachel is a member of ASCAP and AFM Local 802.

DAVID BRUSH is a director, music director, vocal coach and librettist/lyricist. He received his M.A. in Theatre from Regent University and has assisted in the development of over 15 original musicals - two of which had successful Off-Broadway runs. His producer credits include: Off-Broadway - Hot Mess In Manhattan; Regional - Pump Up The Volume, The Consequences, and Spring Awakening. Directing/Music Directing credits include: regional premieres of Next Thing You Know, Rent, 35mm, The Last Five Years, Tick, Tick...Boom!, The Lightning Thief, and Reasons To Be Pretty. Writing credits include: Summer of My German Soldier (Jim Farley, music; American Harmony Prize 2014, Chicago Stages Finalist); The Anxiety Project (Rachel Dean, music; Original Cast Recording available now); and the upcoming Amelia (Rachel Dean, music; Julia Fisher, Book) and The Word Collector (KGM Theatrical and Sammy Lopez, producers). David has served as Music Director/Director for many theatres and organizations throughout the country (50+ productions in all). David is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the host of musical theatre podcasts The 10glo Show and The Business Of Broadway (with KGM Theatrical), teaches musical theatre voice and serves as adjunct faculty at the university level.
